Good stuff, and the blog came out pretty well for text-to-speech. If only the lockout participants could communicate so clearly!

Jan Levine: With all due respect to Susan Powder, stop the insanity is a good way to describe what's going on with the NHL lockout.

Good read Jan. As we speak in on my way back home on the LIRR. Really wish i was coming from a Ranger game but of course not. I was one of those who blamed bettman almost 100% for the lockout but the longer it goes on the more i blame fehr. This could be and should be over already but here we sit waiting on them.

Its not fair, i pour my heart into this team and this sport more than anything else. i wish someone would take both sides and smash some sense into them. I feel helpless but to come here and social media and complain.

If and when they do finally agree to a new CBA i hope we (the fans) get more than "thank you fans" scrolled across each blue line. I dont know what the NHL can do to repay us for suffering through this, but it should be nothing short of a red carpet. Its time to get it together, the NHL is already an embarssement, dont make it worse.

Attention all Fans: we need to be heard when this is all over I suggested at the opening puck drop of the each teams home opener we all rise and Boo for the first 5 min of the game. this would be loud and clear message that Collectively we are mad at both the players and owners. lets face it I love the game I just am really pissed at the people involved in it right now.

what do you think? bet we could with twitter and social media get some sort of thing out there?

The players and owner need to remember who's dollar they are fighting over...

When Gary Bettman was filmed running back to the hotel the other night it gave this negotiation the true face of absurdity. This entire process will be the focus of many a lesson in what not to do in labor negotiations at the leading labor law schools across the land going forward. Bettman has backed himself into a corner, his last stand is the spector of cancelling the season. It's his last bargining chip, he's out of bullets. Here's is downfall, unlike 2004 the owners felt the salary cap was worth losing the season over, Bettman knew it and bullied his way to achieve it. He opened this process with the same "piss arm club" attitude, locking the players out the minute it was possible, rejecting any and all proposals with his swift sword. "I'll show them whose boss, right Jeremy"? Well, perhaps Bettman's biggest fear has come home to roost. Don Fehr doesn't give a rat a$$ what he does. I'm very sure not even Fehr thought for moment Bettman would run down the block like a kid whose ball was being with while he was having dinner, or maybe he did. For those who want to start ripping Fehr as being an impediment to arriving at a deal, you're right. Fact of the matter is, it's his job to keep the CBA exactly as it was, giving back nothing. But, know this, if he is going to give something back, he will get something huge in return. Don't forget, he has the fact that the current CBA was in effect for 7 years and everyone made money. Fact that the owners think it's to player freindly, won't mean squat if it goes to court. The courts will take a "what the hell is this all about" view should it get that far. Fehr's only downside is, he has a rank and file who really wants to play, way more than the baseball players did back in the 90's, they are by nature a different breed. He has told them all along, "I have no intention of losing the entire season for you". However, he has also told them, "If we do make deal, doesn't mean it has to be a bad deal". Bottom line, if the NHL cancels the season, Bettman will be held accountable by the owners, who's sport hangs in the balance, becasue jsut as Fehr has said, "I don't intend to lose the entire season". He has walked right into Fehr's trap, be so concerned by me, and beating me, he has totally overplayed his hand.

To really show a point, The fans should all go inside the concourse and leave nobody in their seats for the first 5 minutes

With all the new changes to the Garden, it's really a 1st rate venue again, people are going to be curious to see it, and to see the Rangers again. Staying away might be their 1st reaction, but when they see the place filled up all will return. i do like the idea of leaving the seat in protest for a few minutes.

I only meant for one game; not the whole season. I was just thinking that might mean a touch more than a temporary absence within the first few minutes of a game. Then again it's only a message that we'd be sending.

I've heard great things about MSG. LeBrun got a tour and tweeted how awesome it was. Wish I could see it some day.

I did. Went to the Cornell/Michagan game. It's awesome, looks like a brand new arena.

Hey strangers, been a while (for those that have stuck around through this circus).

After starting the lockout on the side of the players, after the recent talks I have completely jumped ship and am now on the side of the owners. I dont remember if people remember our discussions about this in the offseason... however I outlined 2 things to not just save the season but save the league from falling apart...

The 5 to 7 year max contract and a 10% year to year variance (5% was offered by the league).

Shockingly enough sounds like someone from the NHL must have been reading my posts cause thats exactly what they offered. I know the "make better" thing was a huge hold up, however the NHL upped the offer to something very reasonable.

Im officially of the opinion that Fehr is an egotistical bumhole.

I have a better proposal, the owners honor the contracts they signed as written, as honorable men would.

BTW, Fehr is an egotistical bumhole, and very smart and effective.

This lockout wouldnt have happened if they would.

However going even deeper, I do pit the blame on Bettman for being the cause of this beyond the owners because of teams that he expanded in locations that are unsuccessful and massive money eaters. Forcing the owners to want more money because ultimately its the successful franchises that end up paying for those teams that are in the negative every year.

Bettman is only responsible for 4 teams; Nashville, Columbus, Atlanta, and Minnesota. Nashville has done a decent job building a fanbase. I think most would agree Minnesota was a smart move. Columbus is still a solid market, they just need some sort of sustained success. (With JD in the fold, its possible now.) Atlanta had hopes of TBS deal. Minnesota is self explanatory. None of the teams were really bad options especially at the time they were introduced. Sure atlanta crashed and burned, but bettman couldn't say no. He was in need of a new TV deal and TBS could have possibly replaced OLN.

Columbus is 2nd only to Phoenix in terms of least profiting franchises with a loss of 18.7 million last year. Speaking of Phoenix, they arent a Bettman expansion? Whats been stopping him from moving a team that has been leading the league in losing money for a decade? 20.6 million last year. Ah, the Wild... The Stars should have never left Minnesota to begin with. Atlanta was just an idiotic expansion, its a crap reason but its a real one, just look at who lives there... 99.9% of black people do not watch or care about hockey. Nashville has been decent.

Quebec and Seattle is where there should be franchises. Hamilton, although in Canada, is too close to Toronto. Stick a team in Wisconsin too.

Looks like the mediators are being reengaged tomorrow, which I think provides the benefit of eliminating the potential theatrics that could be associated with direct negotiations right now. Hopefully, these mediators will effectively bang on both sides to get a deal done.

I really thought we were close to having an agreement last week. Hard to know now if it's all going down the tubes. the good news is, I think we're reaching the end game within the next couple of weeks. Well, maybe it's not good news, but at least we'll know one way or the other if we'll have a 48 game season or not.

Hmmm 1993-1994 NJ Devils are knocked out by their rivals the Rangers in the ECF.. then a lockout shortens the season to 40 soemthing games and the Devils come back to win the cup....

Repeat of history?!
